One black man, a vendor selling fridge magnets and other gadgets,
was a US army veteran who served in Vietnam. He looked twenty years younger than his actual age of seventy-two.
Born and bred in New York, a 72 year old Vietnam veteran told one of our members how they are trying to push his people out of the area with exorbitant costs for rent and how they are trying to charge people for crossing from Queens into Manhattan as a method of keeping the poor from that area.
“This is my state, and I was born and bred here,”
he said with passion.

I visited New York City last week, and I can definitely say it was a little scary. I went to school there about six or seven years ago and it was bad then–I won’t say it’s apocalyptic now, but the beginnings of it. Trash everywhere, people laying on the sidewalk, people without shirts on running across the street yelling gibberish, and others who look like they’d kill you on the spot if you bump into them. Food has always been expensive there. I don’t think it has to do with food supply in the US but simply because of demand to live there. I couldn’t wait to get where I was going. I didn’t really see any security anywhere though. I was in the general neighborhood of Grand Central Terminal.

Thanks for sharing what you saw. I asked because we, here in Italy, know New York only through films and therefore we have a false idea of this city. In the movies they always show for example the neighborhoods with perfect houses, rich people, all living working but instead I have also found videos on youtube where you can see that there are many homeless people and this is scandalous because Biden should think about these people first. everything and not to spend money to buy weapons. I would like to see these people placed inside the houses and not on the street.
